Nurse Specialist in Maternal and Obstetric Health

Carmen Sousa

About

Even while attending the specialty course, I became aware of my interest in helping women to have a positive and safe experience of their labor and delivery so, after individual training, I started giving courses in preparation for childbirth.

I pioneered childbirth preparation on the island of São Miguel. I was always open to sharing knowledge and practices with anyone who wanted to learn.

In 2015 I founded the Mother and Woman Center whose initial focus was women’s education for motherhood.
Today the center encompasses other areas of activity.

I believe that knowledge is power and that technical competence is very important for the development of my profession, however I am passionate about the innate wisdom of the body, its ability to balance itself. I love the physiology of labor. Therefore, I believe that an expectant attitude that respects physiology is the most appropriate way to accompany women in labor.

I teach with conviction to believe in their body and to know how to listen to it.
